"Uralmashplant" JSC (part of UZTM-KARTEX Group) finalizes an integrated upgrade of the pellet and metallization plant of OEMK (part of Metalloinvest). State-of-the-art engineering solutions allowed achieving the plant performance guarantee.

The project, which involved an upgrade and partial retrofit of the existing shop equipment, and construction of a new green-pellet process line, began in August 2020. According to the deputy chief designer (metallurgical equipment) of Uralmashplant, Mr. Yaroslav Kalugin, approximately 20 qualified subcontractors and leading Russian engineering companies took part in the project together with UZTM.

The supplies for the upgrade of the integrated plant included 35 items of main process equipment (total mass of 700 t) manufactured by the leading worldwide producers, including items produced domestically: pellet disintegrator manufactured at UZTM, and drum pelletizer manufactured by Uralmash-Mining Equipment (subsidiary of Uralmashplant).

'We faced a task of achieving certain process parameters: increase in performance of the induration machine by more than 10 % up to 550 t of fired pellets per hour, and keep the high-quality of the ready product,' says Yaroslav Kalugin.

'The increase in performance of the induration machine will have a positive impact on the efficiency and cost in the entire production chain up to the final steel products.' emphasized Kirill Chernov, managing director of OEMK.
